Job Summary:
To ensure the safe, vibration-free, and efficient operation of the Steam Turbine and the Turbine Auxiliary Systems (Condenser, CW Pumps, Feed Pumps, Gland Sealing, and Lubrication).
Key Responsibilities:
Turbine Operations:
- Oversee turbine rolling, synchronization, and loading/unloading operations.
- Monitor key parameters: Vibration, Bearing Temperature, Eccentricity, and Differential Expansion.
Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance:
- Plan and execute maintenance of the Turbine Governing System, LP/HP Bypass systems, and Turning Gear.
- Coordinate specialized jobs such as Turbine Blade inspection, Bearing replacement, and Shaft Alignment (Laser alignment).
Auxiliary Systems Management:
- Manage the maintenance of Condensate Extraction Pumps, Boiler Feed Pumps (BFP), and Cooling Water systems.
- Ensure proper vacuum is maintained in the Condenser by managing air extraction systems and cleaning tubes.
Reliability Engineering:
- Conduct vibration analysis and perform balancing of rotating parts.
- Analyze oil samples (FERROGRAPHY) to detect early wear of turbine bearings and journal.
Safety & Critical Systems:
- Ensure the Emergency Trip System (ETS) and overspeed protection mechanisms are tested regularly.
- Manage high-pressure steam leaks using proper leak sealing techniques.
Competencies:
- Expert level knowledge of Steam Path Audit and Turbine efficiency calculations.
- Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic control systems for valves.
- Strong experience in water chemistry relative to Boiler Feed Water (to prevent scaling in turbine stages).
Qualifications:
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 12–18 years of experience, with mandatory experience in Steam Turbine maintenance (preferably 100MW+ units).
