Job Purpose
The Senior Automation & Instrument Technician/Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, installing, and optimizing industrial automation and instrumentation systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. The role supports continuous improvement initiatives, preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Systems
Maintain and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems.
Diagnose automation faults and restore plant operation with minimal downtime.
Modify and optimize control logic where authorized.
Assist in commissioning new automation systems and equipment.
Maintain backups of PLC and HMI programs.
Instrumentation
Install, calibrate, test, and maintain field instruments including:
Pressure transmitters
Flow meters
Level transmitters
Temperature sensors
Control valves
Positioners
Analytical instruments
Perform loop checks and functional testing.
Ensure calibration records are maintained.
Recommend replacement of obsolete or faulty instruments.
Electrical & Control Systems
Troubleshoot motor control circuits.
Support VFDs, soft starters, MCCs, and control panels.
Read and interpret:
P&IDs
Electrical drawings
Loop diagrams
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Execute preventive maintenance schedules.
Participate in predictive maintenance programs.
Analyze recurring failures and recommend corrective actions.
Improve equipment reliability and availability. .
Documentation
Maintain maintenance records.
Update PLC and electrical documentation.
Prepare technical reports.
Maintain spare parts inventory for automation and instrumentation equipment.
Leadership
Supervise technicians and contractors when assigned.
Mentor junior automation and instrumentation personnel.
Provide technical training to maintenance teams.
Coordinate with production , quality and other departments.
