The Ward Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients admitted to inpatient wards. The role involves patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, monitoring patient progress, implementation of nursing interventions, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe and high-quality patient care throughout hospitalization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clinical Duties:
    • Provide direct nursing care to patients admitted to inpatient wards in accordance with established nursing standards, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies.
    • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, emotional, and social evaluations.
    • Monitor and document patients’ vital signs, symptoms, clinical status, and responses to treatment, promptly reporting significant changes in condition.
    • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
    • Implement individualized nursing care plans and evaluate patient outcomes to ensure effective and timely care.
    • Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals during examinations, procedures, treatments, and diagnostic interventions.
    • Provide wound care, pain management, nutritional support, catheter care, specimen collection, and other nursing procedures as required.
    • Promote patient safety through adherence to infection prevention measures, medication safety practices, fall prevention strategies, and clinical care standards.
    • Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies and deterioration in clinical condition.
    • Support patients' physical, emotional, and psychological well-being throughout their hospital stay.
    • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care requirements.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records, nursing notes, medication administration records, and clinical documentation.
    • Collaborate closely with physicians, specialists, pharmacists, therapists, laboratory personnel, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
    • Participate in patient admissions, transfers, referrals, discharges, and continuity of care activities.
    • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols, patient safety standards, and hospital policies.
    • Monitor and report patient care concerns, incidents, adverse events, and safety risks according to organizational procedures.
    • Ensure proper utilization, maintenance, and readiness of ward equipment, medical supplies, and patient care resources.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, patient safety programs, and accreditation activities.
    • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic ward environment.
  • Educational Duties:
    • Provide health education and counseling to patients and families regarding disease management, treatment plans, medication adherence, nutrition, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare practices.
    • Support patients and caregivers in understanding discharge instructions and home care requirements.
    • Participate in clinical training, continuing professional development, and competency assessments.
    • Support orientation and mentorship of newly assigned nurses, students, interns, and healthcare staff.
    • Stay updated with current evidence-based nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and patient care standards.
