Retail Manager / Junior Bookkeeper

Role:  Retail Manager / Junior Bookkeeper
Location:  Western Cape - Overberg - Gansbaai
Salary:  TBC

Key Responsibilities

Retail Management

• Manage the daily operations.
• Lead, train, supervise and motivate staff.
• Prepare staff rosters and allocate shifts.
• Deliver excellent customer service and resolve customer queries professionally.
• Drive sales and achieve profitability targets.
• Oversee pricing, merchandising and stock control.
• Order stock and maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Check, reconcile and record daily cash-ups.
• Promote and market the business and identify opportunities to grow sales.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.

Bookkeeping & Administration

• Process financial transactions accurately using Xero and/or Pastel.
• Record transactions in the correct journals and post them to the relevant ledger accounts.
• Assist with preparing and monitoring monthly budgets.
• Manage petty cash and perform reconciliations.
• Process supplier invoices and ensure payments are made timeously.
• Prepare customer invoices and statements and follow up on outstanding accounts.
• Maintain accurate filing of financial records and supporting documentation.
• Liaise with accountants and auditors by providing the required financial information.
• Provide general administrative support as required.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous retail management experience is essential.
• Experience in bookkeeping or a junior accounting role.
• Experience working with Xero and/or Pastel (Xero experience will be advantageous).
• Experience using Vend or a similar point-of-sale system will be advantageous.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• A valid driver's licence will be advantageous.
• Must be physically fit and comfortable working in a hands-on retail environment that includes stock handling and supporting the day-to-day operations of the business.
