Job Purpose

The Licensed Transit officer is responsible for managing customs clearance and freight forwarding operations in compliance with customs laws, import and export regulations, and company policies. The role ensures the timely and cost-effective clearance of cargo, maintains strong relationships with customs authorities and stakeholders, and provides professional guidance on customs procedures to support efficient international trade operations.

Head Office and Customs Stations (Airport, Dry Port, Border Posts, and Seaports)

Key Responsibilities

1. Customs Clearance Operations

v  Coordinate and manage import, export, and transit customs clearance processes.

v  Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations and supporting documents.

v  Ensure compliance with customs regulations, tariff classifications, and valuation requirements.

v  Facilitate timely cargo release while minimizing delays and demurrage costs.

v  Resolve customs queries, inspections, and documentation discrepancies.

2. Regulatory Compliance

v  Ensure all customs transactions comply with national customs laws, trade regulations, and relevant government directives.

v  Maintain a valid customs transitor license and ensure adherence to licensing requirements.

v  Keep abreast of changes in customs legislation, tariff schedules, and trade agreements.

v  Ensure compliance with import permits, export licenses, and other regulatory requirements.

3. Documentation Management

v  Verify the accuracy and completeness of shipping and customs documentation, including:

v  Commercial Invoices

v  Packing Lists

v  Bills of Lading

v  Air Waybills

v  Certificates of Origin

v  Import/Export Permits

v  Insurance Certificates

v  Customs Declaration Forms

v  Maintain organized records for audit and regulatory purposes.

4. Freight & Logistics Coordination

v  Coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, freight forwarders, transport companies, warehouses, and customs officials.

v  Arrange transportation of cleared cargo to final destinations.

v  Monitor shipment movement and ensure timely delivery.

v  Coordinate cargo inspections and examinations when required.

6. Cost Control

v  Monitor customs duties, taxes, port charges, storage fees, and transportation costs.

v  Recommend cost-saving opportunities while maintaining compliance.

v  Minimize penalties, storage charges, and shipment delays.

7. Risk Management

v  Identify customs compliance risks and recommend corrective actions.

v  Ensure accurate tariff classification and customs valuation.

v  Support customs audits and investigations.

v  Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.

8. Reporting

v  Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly customs clearance reports.

v  Track shipment turnaround times and clearance performance.

v  Maintain records of customs transactions and regulatory correspondence.

v  Report operational issues and recommend process improvements.
