About the Role:
This role demands a proactive leader committed to continuous improvement and quality assurance. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise laboratory staff and operations to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure timely delivery of accurate and reliable laboratory test results. Implement and maintain quality management systems aligned with ISO standards, especially ISO 15189.
Oversee internal quality control, external quality assessments, audits, and ongoing improvements. Ensure full compliance with laboratory, professional, regulatory, and safety requirements.
Manage maintenance, calibration, and performance of all laboratory equipment. Control laboratory supplies and inventory to support uninterrupted operations.
Monitor workload, productivity, and turnaround times to optimize service delivery. Train, mentor, and develop laboratory personnel to enhance team capabilities.
Supervise blood storage, compatibility testing, and cross-matching procedures. Prepare operational and quality reports; collaborate with clinicians and hospital management to enhance laboratory services.
Candidate Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Science or higher qualification. Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and a valid practising licence.
Minimum of five years’ experience managing or supervising a busy medical laboratory. Training and certification in ISO standards, preferably ISO 15189 and Laboratory Quality Management Systems.
Proven experience implementing and maintaining laboratory quality management systems. Strong leadership and people management skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory equipment, inventory, and operational management. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to laboratory operations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Additional Qualifications Experience with laboratory accreditation processes. Certification in Monitoring and Evaluation or Project Management.
Experience conducting internal and external laboratory audits. Background in quality assurance, quality control, and external quality assessment programs.
