Job Purpose
To install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and systems in underground mining operations, ensuring maximum equipment availability and compliance with electrical safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and repair underground electrical equipment and systems.
- Carry out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance.
- Diagnose electrical faults and undertake repairs.
- Maintain underground power distribution systems.
- Inspect electrical installations and identify potential hazards.
- Conduct testing and isolation of electrical equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
- Maintain electrical equipment, cables, switchgear, motors and related installations.
- Ensure electrical work is conducted in accordance with approved mine procedures.
- Complete maintenance records and report equipment defects.
- Participate in planned maintenance shutdowns.
- Assist with emergency electrical breakdowns.
- Maintain good housekeeping in electrical work areas.
- Comply with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures.
- Participate in toolbox meetings and safety programmes.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Craft Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Valid electrical trade qualification.
- Relevant professional registration/certification where applicable.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in an underground mining environment.
- Strong knowledge of industrial/underground electrical systems.
- Knowledge of mine electrical safety and isolation procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
- Physically fit and able to work underground and on a shift basis.
