The Charge Nurse is responsible for providing clinical leadership, coordinating nursing activities, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care within the assigned unit. The role involves supervising nursing staff, coordinating patient care activities, managing unit operations, and serving as a liaison between nursing teams, physicians, patients, and hospital management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clinical Duties:
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients as required and serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff within the assigned unit.
  • Oversee the delivery of nursing care to ensure compliance with established clinical standards, protocols, and best practices.
  • Conduct patient assessments and support nursing staff in managing complex patient care situations.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and ensure timely interventions to address changes in patient conditions.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure continuity and efficiency of patient care.
  • Assist physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams during examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed.
  • Promote patient safety through adherence to infection prevention, medication safety, and quality care standards.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation and evaluation of individualized nursing care plans.
  • Address patient and family concerns and facilitate effective communication regarding care plans and treatment processes.
  • Participate in emergency response situations and provide leadership during clinical emergencies.
• Administrative Duties:
  • Coordinate daily nursing operations and staffing activities within the assigned unit to ensure adequate patient coverage and quality care delivery.
  • Assign patient care responsibilities based on patient acuity, staff competency, and workload distribution.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor nursing staff, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Monitor nursing documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Facilitate effective communication between nursing staff, physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and families.
  • Participate in scheduling, staffing adjustments, and resource allocation to meet patient care demands.
  • Ensure proper utilization, maintenance, and availability of medical equipment, supplies, and medications within the unit.
  • Participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs.
  • Assist in monitoring unit performance indicators and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
• Educational Duties:
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and clinical guidance to nursing staff.
  • Participate in orientation programs for newly recruited nurses and support staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate continuing professional development opportunities for nursing personnel.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practice and encourage adherence to clinical guidelines and standards.
  • Stay updated with current developments in nursing leadership, patient safety, quality improvement, and healthcare practices.
